It’s Electrifying!!!!!!

Now that the old drywall and plaster has come down it’s time restore and rebuild. It is at this stage that all the electrical is best to be addressed. Most older Toronto homes are equipped with what is known as “KNOB and TUBE WIRING”, which was commonly used from the 1880′s to roughly 1930. Traditionally this source of electricity consisted of single-insulated copper conductors  which ran within wall or ceiling cavities, passing through joist and stud drill-holes via protective porcelain insulating tubes, along their length, on nailed-down porcelain knob and tube wiring insulators.

B is for…Break it, and Build me a New One.

New built homes are not for everyone’s preference. Many of our clients are drawn to mature neighbourhoods in Toronto. Often for the convenience of being closer to the city or simply “URBAN LOVE”. It is in the neighbourhood of Yonge and Lawrence that we have undertaken the restoration of a home built in 1929, and left almost original by the previous owners.

Time toTangerine Tango….

As tradition has it every year, the Pantone Colour Institute releases the Colour of the Year.
 A colour which influences all aspects of the visual world around us, from kitchen accessories, home decor, wall coverings and paint, even extending into cabinetry and furniture pieces.
This year finds us celebrating a colour that is BRIGHT and ENCHANTING while also being HOPEFUL and OPTIMISTIC.

You can imagine how thrilled CALITRI was when they announced (considering it’s one of our company brand colours) TANGERINE TANGO!!!

Pantone has turned to the “spirited reddish-orange” hue to “provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.”

Here are some tips to salvage some of those hard earned dollars, and make your household more efficient and budget-smart.

Plug the Power Drain
As much as 75 percent of electricity use by electronics occurs while the devices are off. Big-screen TVs, stereo systems and computer peripherals are some of the worst offenders. Curtail the loss with power strips that kill power when they sense inactivity.

It’s eco-LOGICAL!!!

With autumn upon us, many of us have started to spend less time outdoors due to the change in temperature, and frequent rain that the season brings with it.  We are preparing for the winter “cocooning”; getting re-aquainted with the indoors. However, we often find that the outdoor and indoor ecology are very different, and the indoors start to feel stuffy and drab; let’s also keep in mind that quality of our indoor air greatly differs from the outdoors.
